When Your Wedding Calls for Six Outfits, Rent from Something White Styling
It’s a familiar story for Kate Loscalzo: All her friends are getting married, and the age-old question arises, “What should I wear?” But instead of choosing a dress as a guest, she’s the one being asked for advice—where to shop, what to wear, and the latest bridal trends of the season. Loscalzo worked as a celebrity wardrobe stylist for editorial photoshoots and red-carpet events in Los Angeles for six years before returning to the Midwest to start her own business, Something White Styling. This exclusive 360-degree platform gives brides access to a professional stylist who helps them shop and curate looks for every bridal event leading up to the big day.
Something White Styling is a wedding wardrobe planner.
“I wanted to create something that would allow brides to not feel guilty about what they were buying, knowing there’s an option to either rent or sell their wardrobe later,” says Loscalzo. Inspired by her experience with Rent the Runway, a growing awareness of sustainability, and a love for vintage, Loscalzo identified a gap in the market and set out to fill it.
Since its launch in 2018, Something White Styling has been featured in Poosh, Brides, and The Knot. Loscalzo has earned praise for helping brides create custom looks from their mothers’ gowns, providing a stress-free experience, and being described as a perfect addition to any wedding. Wedding dresses aren’t cheap, which isn’t surprising, but what’s often overlooked is that a bride needs outfits for at least six different events, even before they start thinking about walking down the aisle. “As a bride, you already have so much on your plate, and being able to pass a task off to somebody is such a key thing,” she says. The vicious cycle of online shopping can be exhausting. “I think it’s the last thing a bride should have to worry about,” says Loscalzo.
The process starts with choosing the right styling package. Brides can select a package that fits their needs, complete a questionnaire, and connect with their stylist to curate their dream head-to-toe looks. Specializing in exclusive rentals, they cater to brides on a specific budget or those seeking sustainable options, which has caught the attention of Tulerie. Tulerie’s lenders and borrowers have enthusiastically embraced renting outfits for their special day. A vintage Chanel flap bag has made its way to a courthouse wedding, and an Alice and Olivia sequin mini dress has sparkled on the reception dance floor.
Lenders have even listed their bridal dresses and accessories for rent in the past, maximizing their cost per wear and earning some cash back on their one-time investment. Loscalzo offers the same opportunity to her community. Lenders sign a contract and display their items in her Chicago studio, where styling appointments are held and rental transactions are completed.
Loscalzo says her favorite part of the process is that no bride is the same. “A bride who thinks outside the box and uses their wedding wardrobe to tell their story is my ideal client,” she says. Each bride has their own flavor, and rentals play a crucial role in bringing that vision to life. Wearing a dream outfit without long-term commitment lets brides experiment with different textures, silhouettes, and color variations. “Bridal trends are moving quickly just as much as they do in real life, which is kind of freaky because you have to pick out your wedding dress nine months in advance,” she says. While commitment is a big part of weddings, it doesn’t have to extend to your wardrobe.
The LWD Lookbook is a starting point for exploring available rentals. The lookbook has now extended to the Tulerie app with a select collection available to rent under Something White Styling. “You have so many wonderful pieces but not many white ones,” she says. “I want to showcase a broader and more specific range because wedding fashion is a niche.” Among the standout rentals, her favorite dress is the 16Arlington Mira Sequin Maxi Dress from the Fall 2022 Collection. Loscalzo notes that it’s not only a showstopper from runway to rental but also looks elegant on everyone.
Kate Loscalzo’s favorite piece in the Tulerie closet is available to rent for $155 for four days.
Most importantly, renting carefully curated, gently worn bridal clothes and accessories offers a sustainable way to bring your wedding wardrobe vision to life. Sustainability is central to her business and lifestyle as a stylist. Even after the wedding, Something White Styling provides solutions for a closet full of white items that might never be worn again, allowing them to enter a new lifecycle. Some tips include repurposing the gown by using the fabric to make a bag, dyeing it black, or selling it on resale sites—a feature of the new Something White Styling package, Something White Selling. A new website, set to launch soon, aims to help every bride embrace a sweet ending to a new beginning.
“It’s still a very far-in-the-future way of thinking, as most brides still prefer a traditional experience. However, I believe that in the future, brides will become more comfortable with renting, reselling, and embracing sustainable practices without feeling the need to purchase everything,” she says.
